DEFINITION

A protein complex that plays a role in neurotransmitter-gated ion transport. It is a pentamer that binds serotonin and is comprised of either five 5-hydroxytryptamine receptor 3A subunits or a combination of four 5-hydroxytryptamine receptor 3A molecules with one of the alternative subunits, 5-hydroxytryptamine receptor 3B, 3C, 3D or 3E.

DesignNote

The 5-HT3 receptor is a non-selective, cation-specific, ligand-gated ion channel. (UniProt)
